I finished writing The Quiet Shift in March 2026. By the time I typed the last sentence, three of the examples I'd cited in Chapter One were already outdated.
That's not a failure of the book. That's the entire point.
We're living through a transformation that doesn't wait for manuscripts to be edited, printed, and shipped. AI isn't arriving in some distant future — it's rearranging the ground beneath us right now, in real time, while most of us are still trying to figure out what happened last week.
So I'm doing something I didn't originally plan. I'm launching this blog as a living companion to the book — because the conversation about AI and human agency can't be confined to a single publication date. It has to breathe. It has to move.
What the Book Does
The Quiet Shift is a time capsule. It captures what it felt like to live through early 2026 — the specific texture of this moment when AI stopped being a tech industry curiosity and became something everyone had an opinion about.
The book explores a question I believe will define this decade: How do we preserve human agency — our ability to think, choose, create, and lead — when the tools around us are growing more capable by the month?
I wrote it for people who aren't anti-AI and aren't AI evangelists. People who use these tools, benefit from them, and still feel something shifting underneath that nobody's fully named yet. That shift is quiet. It doesn't announce itself with sirens. But it's profound, and it deserves serious attention — not hype, not panic, but clarity.
The book gives you that clarity for March 2026. A fixed point. A record.
What This Blog Does
This blog picks up where the book leaves off.
Every week or two, I'll be tracking what's actually happening with AI — not the press releases, but the developments that affect how you work, create, make decisions, and navigate your life. I'll apply the same framework from the book — what I call the Human Layer™ — to events as they unfold.
Think of the book as the foundation. This blog is the field report.
The March 2026 Snapshot: What Just Happened
If you want proof that this blog is necessary, look at what's already unfolded in the first three months of 2026.
The AI Arms Race Hit a New Gear. March 2026 delivered the most concentrated wave of AI model releases in history. OpenAI launched GPT-5.4 with the ability to autonomously control computers. Anthropic, Google, and DeepSeek released competing flagship models within the same two-week window.
The Courts Pushed Back — Hard. In January, Universal Music, Concord, and ABKCO filed a $3.1 billion lawsuit against Anthropic. Courts ordered OpenAI to produce tens of millions of ChatGPT conversation logs in copyright litigation. On March 2, the Supreme Court declined to hear Thaler v. Perlmutter, solidifying that AI-generated content requires human authorship for copyright protection.
AI Caused Real Harm to Real People. The Grok deepfake scandal broke through the noise — users generated thousands of nonconsensual sexualized images per hour. Teenagers in Tennessee filed lawsuits. Baltimore became the first U.S. city to sue. Multiple countries banned the tool entirely.
Jobs Started Disappearing — Visibly. Tech layoffs in 2026 reached 45,000 by early March, with over 9,200 explicitly linked to AI and automation. Amazon cut 16,000 positions. Block announced a 40% workforce reduction.
AI Money Flooded Politics. Competing super PACs backed by the AI industry began pouring money into the 2026 midterm elections, funding campaign ads about everything except AI policy itself.
The EU Set a Deadline the World Will Feel. August 2, 2026 is when the EU AI Act's most consequential provisions take full effect — covering biometrics, employment, education, law enforcement, and critical infrastructure.
What I'm Watching Next
The EU AI Act enforcement deadline in August will be the first real stress test of comprehensive AI regulation. The copyright litigation wave is accelerating. The job displacement numbers will either stabilize or accelerate. And the cultural conversation is shifting — people aren't asking "Will AI change things?" They're asking "How do I navigate this?"
That's the question this blog exists to address.
Come Along
I'm not writing this blog to tell you what to think about AI. I'm writing it because this moment — right now, early 2026 — is when the decisions are being made that will shape the next decade. And those decisions shouldn't belong only to the companies building the technology or the governments trying to regulate it.
They belong to you. Your agency. Your choices. Your sovereignty over how you work, create, and live alongside these tools.
The Quiet Shift gives you the foundation. This blog gives you the ongoing conversation. Subscribe, and let's make sense of this together — in real time, as it happens.
Share your journey.
Are you navigating AI on your own terms? Have you felt the quiet shift happening in your own work or life? This is your space to share it. Every story matters here.
